I am a 46-year-old home educating mother of two boys: 'Calvin' (aged 12) and 'Hobbes' (aged 8). Both boys lived in Asia for most of their lives, including four years in China. We moved to Scotland in the summer of 2008 with husband, the rock on whom we all depend.
We home educate in an eclectic, classically-influenced style. We all love to read, and take foreign language study seriously; Hobbes in particular wants to study as many languages with different scripts as possible. I try to balance our bookish tendencies with daily exercise.
It looks very Chinese. Looking through your display out into the garden beyond must be like travelling at great speed between continents. Have a wonderful day Laura!
Like most of the house, it's a mixture of old and new, Chinese and Western. The antique Chinese picnic basket at the other end holds my jewelry. The jar in the middle is newly-crafted - a gift from my husband. Under it is some contemporary embroidery from Yunnan, in south west China. The plant holder is also modern, but the fish placed around it are 19th century opium weights.
